Finding a place to live:

Ila will send you a list of apartments that some people rent from, but I would definitely recommend talking to some second years or BSU students before you decide on somewhere. Some people are currently living at Windermere located about ten minutes from the center as you enter Muncie (behind Best Buy). These are brand new apartments with lots of great amenities. Other recommended apartment complexes include Sugarbush, White River Apartments, Autumn Breeze, Silvertree, Forest Oaks, McKinley Place, and Homestead.

Check out http://www.rentals.com/Indiana/Muncie/ or apartments.com for information on available apartments and lease information. Feel free to contact any of the second years for advice on choosing a residence. We would be glad to help!

Where to:

Buy Groceries: Meijer, Marsh, Aldi, Wal-Mart

Go Shopping: The Muncie Mall on McGalliard has a few good stores and is usually not crowded. You could also head to TJ Maxx, Target, or Kohl’s. But honestly, you’re better off driving the 45 minutes south to Fishers/Indy if you’re really looking for good shopping!

Get Supplies for school: Wal-Mart, Meijer, Target, Big Lots, Staples

Get a haircut: Great Clips has 2 locations in Muncie and there is a new Sports Clips on McGalliard. The Ball State student center has a barber that gives great male haircuts. If you are looking for a trendier cut, color, or highlights, head to Modify, Cortex or Redhead Salon. Or, just ask a second year with great hair where they got theirs cut.

Workout: Included in the cost of your tuition is access to the Ball State recreational facilities including the pool and weight/workout rooms. You can park at Irving Gym after 7pm or walk from the center (it’s not too far). Ball Gym is located at Burris High School across from the center and the hospital also has a workout facility. There are two YMCAs in Muncie that cost members $30 per month but they tend to be less crowded and they offer several great group exercise classes that are included with the membership fee. A lot of us belong to the Northwest YMCA and love the spin classes there!

Buy Gas: No secret to this one. There are tons of gas stations in Muncie so head to the most convenient or the cheapest! Usually the ones right off of Exit 41 have the cheapest.

Get your nails done: There are several places in Muncie that offer reasonably priced manicures and pedicures. One of the cleanest and most efficient locations is Best Nail located on McGalliard across from Starbucks next to T and H Sweeper. Their pedicures are amazing.

Observe your religion: Muncie has a church for nearly every denomination. You might consider attending services at Union Chapel (very contemporary), Muncie Alliance (contemporary, with free coffee), Christian Campus House, Westminster Presbyterian (very interesting college/career Sunday School class), Hazelwood Christian on University near campus, St. Francis (Catholic), St. Mary’s (Catholic-across from the center), First Presbyterian, and others. Ask one of the second years or Ila for other suggestions.

There is also a group of students who get together at Dr. Morrical’s house on Monday nights to talk about faith and ethics with a focus on Christian values, and eat lots of great food (I think you can figure out who to ask about that!).

Do your banking: Many of us belong to Chase, which has branches all over Muncie and Indy. Other convenient options include Old National Bank, Bank One, Star Financial, Ball State Credit Union, Mutual Federal, and First Merchants.

Send/receive mail or packages: There are three post offices in Muncie. The closest one is located on Kilgore Ave about 10 minutes from the center. There is also a FedEx Kinkos located on McGalliard and Staples has a UPS store. As Ila will tell you, you are more than welcome to have packages mailed to the center. She will provide you with the address at a later date.

Renew your license: If you find yourself needing to visit the local license branch it is in a brand new location on East McGalliard Rd past the Muncie Mall.
