Faculty Advisors
Each student will have a faculty advisor who is selected from a list of full-time faculty nominated by each department. The advisor serves three (3) major functions for each fourth year student.
First, the advisor monitors the student's elective program. The student, with the advisor, will develop an elective program which addresses the student's career goals, prior academic difficulties, and/or identified deficits. All changes to the student's program during the course of the year, and all special elective course requests require the advisor's approval.
Second, the advisor counsels and aids the student in his/her career selection. In addition to working with the student to identify his/her career goal, the advisor and student may work together in selecting programs for graduate education training which will meet the student's needs.
Third, the advisor will be responsible for writing the official School letter of evaluation (Medical Student Performance Evaluation letter or Dean's letter) for the student, as he/she makes application to residency training programs. To assist in this function, the advisor will consult periodically with the student and will be provided with an academic and biographical record of each advisee. Additionally, the advisor will receive copies of the student's course evaluations throughout the year.
