Computers play many roles at IUSM
IUSM views computer literacy as an important part of medical education. In fact, it is among the competencies required for graduation. We encourage all students to purchase laptops. We also maintain computer labs and provide support for their use.
E-mail accounts will be provided to facilitate communication between faculty, administration and students throughout the statewide system. For more about Email at the IU School of Medicine, see Email FAQ.
Angel, a course management and portal software program, is used by Course Instructors as a web-based teaching and learning tool that allows students access to online courses.
Electronic linkage to the Ruth Lilly Medical Library will permit MEDLINE searches, access to full text journals and many textbooks, and access to programs in differential diagnosis and treatment management by all students throughout the statewide system.
The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) will be administered via computer. The faculty believes that our students should be comfortable with computers prior to taking the examination.
Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) provides transmitting of applicant data to residency programs. ERAS is used by most programs and is now available via the web.
